Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Crew Chief
The helicopter Crew Chief Course is a custom designed qualification program for the personnel of those agencies who have expanded their mission to include helicopter rescue operations and who wish to expand the skills of members in an existing program. This program is specifically designed to advance the helicopter rescue skills of those emergency services personnel who have satisfied the requirements of the Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Technician program, or those who are currently assigned as an agencies aircrew member and wish to assist with managing rescue operations while serving as a member of the aircrew. As well, this course addresses the skill requirements found in the relevant NFPA and NIMS SAR credentialing documents.
The participants of this course will be trained to manage the essential functions of aircraft operations during rescue evolutions. Subjects include aircrew, aircraft and rescuer safety, advanced aircraft rigging, load and balance, short-haul and hoist operations in multiple environments, crew resource management, rescue equipment operations and maintenance, helicopter pre-flight operations, emergency shutdown and survival procedures, aircrew and passenger briefings, aircrew/rescuer coordination, and "calling the load" during helicopter rescue operations.
Practical operations will be conducted on land and the water which allows the students and these new aircrew members to hone their skills in the environments they are most likely to respond to. During the operations, the students will work using an Incident Management Team (IMT) and the guidance of an Incident Action Plan (IAP) that they developed to day before.
